St John the Baptist

Aldbury Church

We are a community that cares.  We care about our faith, we care about our community, we care about each other, we care about our church building and our church yard.

The church is open daily, (at present 9.30am - 4pm), throughout the year as a place of prayer for all people.

There are close links with Aldbury School which is a Church School.  There is a small hall attached to the church.

We at Aldbury are committed to responding to the climate emergency.  We are aware that we have a lot to do - it is challenging to make a medieval church energy efficient.

We have upgraded our lights to LED and we are developing a plan to improve.  As a first step we have been awarded a bronze award in the eco churches scheme.

What's On
St Peter & St Pauls: History

History

Aldbury Church is a magnificent medieval building

The Church of Aldbury was granted to Missenden Abbey by William de Bocland in about 1200. By the end of the 13th Century it had probably assumed most of the features seen today. Later additions include some of the fine Totternhoe stone work, and brass memorials.

In the 1990s a modern Chapter house was built onto the side of the church to provide a meeting room for the church.  This has won awards for the design of modern extension complementing a medieval building.

The church and churchyard are open throughout the year, and visitors are always welcome.  It is kept open so that people are able to use the church as a place of private prayer. You will find in the church a votive candle stand and a board on which you may leave your intercessions.  We hope that as you visit the church you will feel the presence of God and spend some time in prayer. On leaving the church you will see the Lych-Gate erected in memory of of Canon H. T. Wood and his wife Lucy.
