The PORCH, largely rebuilt in 1866, was further restored in 1905, but the seats unaltered.
STONE STAIRS lead to the chamber above.
The ORGAN, built by Messrs Gray and Davidson, is said to be a masterpiece of its kind. It was installed in the chancel in 1866, and moved to its present position in 1967.
High up on the west wall, a new door protects a short flight of STONE STAIRS leading into the ringing chamber. These were probably uncovered during the restoration work in 1866, and their origin is obscure.
The TOWER is fourtheenth century, with fifteenth century additions. A MEMORIAL to Fanny Wood, widow of the late Rector, relates that tower and porch were restored by her children in 1905. It then contained four BELLS: three of the seventeenth century which were tolled and a Sanctus bell. In 1984 a new FRAME was fitted, with the old bells retuned and three new bells cast by J Taylor & Co of Loughborough.
The FONT is Victorian, a gift from the mother of the Rev Richard Mountford Wood. continue |
