Friends of Aldbury Church
In the mid-1970s a need was perceived for a vehicle through which funds designated for meeting the costs of repairs and maintenance of the Church could be channelled, and an informal organisation was set up by the Churchwardens. This led to the drafting of a constitution formally adopted in 1978, and to Registration with the Charity Commission.
The objects enshrined in the constitution are to maintain and where necessary restore the Church to promote its use as a place of worship and to further the preservation of the fabric, its ornaments and furnishings.
All electors in the Parish of Aldbury are automatically members together with anyone else interested in the objects of the Charity, who has paid an annual subscription of at least £1.
The management of the charity is in the hands of three Trustees, one elected at the annual meeting of the Charity, one appointed by Aldbury Parish Council and either a Churchwarden or a nominated member of the Aldbury District Church Council, all subject to annual review.
Income consists of subscriptions, donations, legacies, proceeds given by the organisers of events in the village, fetes, etc, and the annual opening of gardens, together with interest and dividends from the Charity's investments.
Total resources of the Charity at the 3l December 2005, the date of the last audited Balance sheet, were in excess of £100000 and income for the five years up to and including 2005 has averaged £9000.
